Commercial Cleaning: Extend the Lifespan of Your Flooring
minute read
If you’re a facilities manager or a business owner looking for someone to professionally clean your floors, you probably have a lot of boxes you’re looking for a company to tick off before you hire them.
We get it.
The cleanliness and condition of your floors can impact how your business is perceived and the safety of those working in or enjoying the space.
In fact, this is one of the biggest reasons it’s important to professionally clean your floors regularly, as floors that aren’t deep cleaned regularly are prone to visible and invisible deterioration.
Why does this happen, and how does professional cleaning work to fight against this deterioration? Let’s talk about it.
How Do Commercial Cleaning Services Extend the Lifespan of Your Floor?
When we see dirt and grime building up on our floors, we tend to only think about what’s happening on a surface level: contaminants that we can pick up on our shoes and spread across the room. Things that could cause illness if we touch them with our hands. The way cracks or scratches can make a floor look less attractive.
However, even greater issues lurk below the surface, including dirt and grime falling into those scratches and abrasions. As the contaminants break down, the structure of the floor weakens over time. An untreated stain on carpet or a rug can even lead to the physical breakdown of fibers that can’t be reversed.
At the end of the day, the flooring in a business is just like the floor in your home, except it takes on more wear and tear and covers a larger surface area. Where contaminants infiltrate the floors in your home, businesses experience the same issues.
In order to keep these contaminants from doing damage, they need to be removed from your flooring. Maintenance cleanings with household mops and products are only so effective, especially when it comes to porous materials like tile and grout.
Instead, to flush these contaminants and protect the health and longevity of your flooring, you need to have a professional cleaning that can get below the surface of your flooring to remove deeply embedded contaminants.
Professional Commercial Cleaning Services
For some seasoned DIYers, professional cleaning services might not feel compelling when you can clean yourself for a cheaper price. That said, there are still a lot of reasons to hire this task out to professionals.
We understand budget constraints—we really do—but that’s also why we recommend hiring a reputable professional cleaning company. DIY cleaning your floor can be dangerous for the floor, making existing problems worse and costing you even more money in the long run.
Professionals understand which flooring solution to use and how strong it can be based on the flooring type. They also bring machines that are specialized to each flooring type and cleaned regularly to avoid tracking any sort of grime from other spaces into yours. Rentals, on the other hand, are not cleaned regularly and can carry contaminants from other users into your space.
If the floor has tough spots, stains, or abrasions, professionals can offer different treatment options to deodorize, remove the spots, and protect the floor in the future. They’ll be especially careful in any areas with abrasions to ensure they don’t aggravate the problem.
Ultimately, this helps you keep your floor in good condition longer and saves you the money and hassle involved in replacing your floor.
Also, hiring someone to deep clean your floors saves you the time of cleaning the floor itself, allowing you to devote your energy to the many other tasks on your plate.
Stanley Steemer’s Professional Commercial Cleaning Services
Stanley Steemer offers commercial cleaning services using two different methods. Our favorite and always our first recommendation is the hot water extraction method we use residentially, as it’s the most thorough. This method flushes contaminants out of their strongholds deep in carpet fibers or the pores of hard flooring using hot water. The water and contaminants are then extracted back into our machine, where we dispose of them.
However, we understand that not all businesses have enough regular downtime for the carpet to dry after we finish cleaning and before customers need to enter the building again.
For this reason, we also offer encapsulation carpet cleaning as an interim solution. While this doesn’t replace a hot water extraction cleaning, it can extend the period of time you can go without a hot water extraction cleaning. Plus, it will ultimately still help preserve your floor while maintaining your business’s regular schedule.
What is Encapsulation Carpet Cleaning?
Encapsulation carpet cleaning is a form of dry carpet cleaning where contaminants are broken down via polymers that are brushed into the carpet. Once in the carpet, these polymers absorb contaminants like a sponge, leaving your carpet fibers clean after the polymers are vacuumed.
Here’s our full process for commercial encapsulation carpet cleaning:
- We start every encapsulation cleaning with a pre-inspection. During this inspection, we look for missing carpet fibers, delamination (separation of the carpet from its backing), loose seams, fraying, unraveling fibers, and any other potential issues. This informs our techs on how to best work with your carpet.
- Next, we vacuum your carpet using commercial-grade vacuum cleaners to remove any loose dirt and debris.
- Once the area has been thoroughly vacuumed, technicians apply our encapsulant cleaner using power sprayers. Polymers surround any remaining dirt and soils on the carpet fibers to crystallize and loosen them for simple removal. They will also capture bacteria, mold, and odors.
- Then, we operate a counter-rotating brush or CRB machine across the carpet to dislodge the encapsulated material from deep within the fibers.
- Once all the encapsulated contaminants have been removed, the floor is spot-cleaned by vacuum to remove any resulting shedding or fuzz.
